Reading: Next week, we will continue Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning. Students will continue working on work on comparing and contrasting points of view in fiction texts, including the difference between first- and third-person narrations. The reading strategy we will be working on this week is predicting.
Math: Students will be working on division using partial products.
A helpful example:
Step 1: Draw a big seven and put your numbers in the correct place.
Step 2: Look at each place value and ask "What can I multiply by 3 that will get me as close to that number without going over?" Example: 3 X 100=300 is as close to 400 as I can get without going over.
Step 3: Write the partial quotient on the side.
Step 4: Write the quotient under the number you are dividing.
Step 5: Subtract
Step 6: Repeat the process
Step 7: Add all the partial quotients up on the side.
Step 8: Write the quotient on the top of the sever. Include any remainders.
Grammar: Students will continue learning relative pronouns and continue working in 2nd unit of Writing on opinion and personal essays.
Science: Students continue learning about light in their science unit this week. Students will use mirrors to observe and understand light. Key vocabulary: Concave and Convex.
