Week of March 4 - March 8



Important Upcoming Dates:
March 4 - March 8: Wellness Week - Students can wear fitness attire all week
March 4 and March 5: Informational Writing Post Test
March 7: EPIC Cluster Dinner and Showcase at 6:30 pm
March 11 - March 18: Spring Break
March 19 - March 22: Parent Teacher Conferences



Reading:
Students will continue identifying main idea within informational text and explain how it is supported by key details.



Math: 
Students will learn how to multiply fractions by whole numbers and use this understanding to solve word problems. You can find online practice problems here.  




Grammar: 
Students will learn how to order adjectives. 

Writing: 
Students will take a writing post test. Students will be asked to chose a topic that they know a lot about and write an informational text about that topic. Students will have one day to complete research and one day to write their essays. Students will also complete a milestone extended constructed response this week. 


Science: 
Students will learn about what causes day and night as well as what causes the seasons.

Wear green today! Green Eggs & Ham for lunch!

Reading
Students will be studying the main idea of a text and explaining how it is supported by key details.  Students will be able to determine the main idea of a text and be able to summarize a text.








Math 
Students learn how to add an subtract mixed numbers with and without regrouping.

Grammar
Students will learn prepositional phrases.

What is a preposition?
Prepositions connect nouns, pronouns, and phrases with other words in a sentence. It gives information about location, direction, space, or time.
The dog jumped over the fence.
I will go to the doctor.
The main job of prepositions is to create relationships between words.

Writing
Students will be editing and revising informational books with a partner and self.

 

Science 
Students will continue to learn about what causes day and night in relation to the position of the sun.

Students will review inference and theme in preparation for their unit test on Friday, February 22.

Reading

This week students will review how to identify the theme of a fictional text.



Math

Students will learn how to add and subtract fractions.




Grammar

Students will learn about synonyms and antonyms.





Writing

Students will continue writing their informational books. We will focus on how to add text features to our writing as a way to provide the reader with visual information in addition to the words.



Science

In science, students will learn about different technology that is used to study the solar system: telescopes, space stations, rovers, and probes. Students will also compare and contrast planets and stars and the inner and outer planets. We will take our quick check on Friday.

Science: Students will learn about the planets found within our solar system. Students will also learn that models or diagrams of our solar system have strengthens and weaknesses.
